My son woke up this morning, his face completely swollen. Hives on his body and red irritated skin. Yesterday was his 5th day of swimming. He's not allergic to chlorine but is definitely having a reaction to it. Chlorine reactions may include itchy, red skin or hives (itchy bumps). This is not an allergy but is actually "irritant dermatitis" (like a chemical burn), caused by hypersensitivity to this natural irritant. Just thought I'd share so you can see the signs. We didn't realize this and continued to let him swim, which caused his skin to become more and more irritated.
